Figures released today by the HSE’s Health Protection Surveillance Centre show that there were 166 newly diagnosed cases of HIV for gay and bisexual men in 2012 in Ireland.

GLEN and BeLonG To Youth Service launch a new online resource www.lgbtmentalhealth.ie to promote positive mental health among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, and among young LGBT people in particular.
To promote the new online resources the first of three new animated short films was released. The films highlight particular actions LGBT people can take that support their positive mental health. The first animation is launched today.

To mark the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency publish the results of the largest survey every undertaken of the everyday experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the EU. 93,000 LGBT people were surveyed across the 27 EU countries and Croatia, including 1,625 LGBT people from Ireland.

The ILGA-Europe Rainbow Map for 2013 showing the legal situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people shows that Ireland is 17th in Europe compared to 14th in last year's Map. Ireland has been passed out by Denmark, France and Albania.

22nd April 2013 is the 30th anniversary of the Supreme Court Judgement in the Norris vs Ireland case, in which the Supreme Court rejected an appeal by now Senator David Norris in his case seeking to repeal the laws criminalising homosexuality.

The Minster for Justice, Alan Shatter TD., after an independent selection process, has appointed GLEN Chair and co-founder Kieran Rose as one of the members of the new Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC), a merger of the old Equality Authority and the Irish Human Rights Commission.

Over 1,000 submissions on ‘same-sex marriage' were received by the Constitutional Convention up to this week's deadline. This is almost fifty times more submissions than on any of the other issues under consideration by the Convention to date. The submissions are running approximately 3:1 in favour of extending access to civil marriage to lesbian and gay couples.
