KAL Case Opens in the High Court Today

Drs Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan were married in Canada in September 2003.
They are now seeking to have their marriage recognised under Irish law and are bringing their case (KAL) before the High Court this morning.
They will argue that the State has acted unlawfully in refusing to recognise their marriage and to apply tax provisions relating to married couples.
